Ok, so i've been playing around with a concept for the last couple of weeks and I have no idea on how to even start.

background: I'm playing a level 9 artificer in a tabletop game (evil) and we've come across a Paladin, now I don't want to kill him, I want to turn him and make him destroy himself.

the idea:
A broach of change alignment, that only works on Paladins, with an increased save DC and three gems that can caste divine spells that can only be caste by an artificer.

what I want to do is make the item and then go into the market place in order to gift the "great paladin" with the broach (after i've caste a combination of undetectable alignment and alter-self). then, he either puts it straight on, or takes it away to be checked, where i'm hoping the magic of the gems will outshine the evil component of the broach.
The reason for the gems is so that I can show him that it can caste divine spells, as a way of inducing him to put it on, and having it artificer only to decrease cost.

any ideas? can't be done? best idea ever? post below

The fishing town of Lutz was not the place you had thought you’d end up in when you set off for the Kingdom of Reafton 2 years ago. The box-like city-life of Larnoff landing had never suited your tastes, and on your 18th birthday you had set out, to see the wilderness. Your plan had been to live off the land, and make your way to Mal Reafton, the largest city in the world, just to see it, and then move on. But several hunger strikes, a few odd-jobs, and some other adventures had distracted you over the past 2 years. And now you turned 20 today, sitting in a fish-smelling inn on what at least was a serene and beautiful lake. The sun was setting and you were just off a ferry that you’d hitched a ride with from the west side of Misty Lake. The inn’s common room was occupied by a group of smelly, rowdy fishermen, who were mostly keeping to themselves, and one other patron, idly spinning a half-drunken whisky glass as he stared into it. Another man, this one as decently armed as the sitting man, joined his friend and began talking hastily. You don’t pick up the entire conversation, but you hear something of the like, “Orcs attacked a farm to the south,”….. “the Barron is offering 50 gold per Orc ear…” The first man’s eyes meet yours as he realizes you have overheard, his eyebrows begin to raise.

[DM]
Every pocket and extradimensional space bulging with treasures of all sort, the well rested pair embarked on the first stage of their planar journey to find the Oblique Gate; sole entry to the plane of Exandoria. Timing their ingress perfectly, they jumped together through the shifting gate in Exandor first lair into the Elemental Plane of Earth.

It was immediately apparent that gravity was doubled (heavy) as they stood in a small (15' radius), hemispherical earthen chamber. There were no tunnels in the hard packed earth walls or ceiling, and they arrived at the top of a small shaft where muddy steps spiraled down. A deep, undulating rumbling, more felt than heard, began as soon as they set foot in the place. Occasional tremors were felt, mostly minor... mostly.

First on their list of materials needed to serve as a key to open the Oblique Gate was a jacinth crafted by a Dao noble and imbued with magical power on the plane of earth.

[Stormbringer]
Inexplicably, the ebon blade said in Elven, “The Dao have a city complex on this plane called the Great Dismal Delve.”

OOC: Knowledge Planes check (& bardic knowledge for Riley), and note any spells cast, etc (sword in hand?).

Thinking life outside your village would be easy, your journey across the country of Delmar has been quite a bit less successful than you would have hoped. Oh sure you were still alive, and had managed at least a FEW good meals since your money ran out. There was that incident with the brothel women in Commerad, but that wasn’t even your fault and the damn idiot bard who’d started the whole thing was now safely behind bars and you weren’t.

As you move east toward the fishing/canoe-making town of Tranton you hear more and more grumblings about orcs and their increased activity in the north lately. The townspeople at the previous village were all quite shook u about it. And when you finally reach the 10-foot stone walls of Tranton you find these villagers much the same, if a little more secure in their defenses.

With no money, you hoped to use your wiled and good graces, possibly your laboring fingers, to earn a meal and a bed. Open to overtures from anyone, you turn to the approach of a rather tall and lenky man in dun-colored overalls, and muddy workboots that look fine in quality non-the-less.

The man eyes you up and down, not missing the weapons arrayed at your side.

“Pardon me, sir,” he began tentatively until he was sure you were open to his inquiry, “But would you be a warrior of some sort?” he asked. “I only ask because you seem sure of yourself, even traveling alone in this country, and you hold yourself naturally with all that steel strapped to you.” He smiles warmly.

Of course, if no game is allowing psionics than its a moot point and a Sorcerer would be fine. This is more for my own curiosity.

Well, the IronShadow returns (I don't know if there's some other shadow here...its been awhile).

Anyway, as I was typing before, I'm back to see how things are running here and hoping to get into a 3.5 ed game (or 4th ed, but that's another story). I don't have any characters written up, but I have 1 character and 1 prc planned.

For those who don't know, I'm married, have 2 kids and I work for the federal prison system. These elements combine to make posting quickly a near impossibility. I post consistantly, but not quickly. So, if there's a game open, and I get into it, you can expect me to post roughly 1-3 times per week.

Psst! Feel free to welcome me back anytime. There's no rush. Really.
