    Default Frequently Asked Questions

    1. I am new to Dungeons & Dragons. What do I need to start playing?

DnD is a game that follows a strict set of rules, not only for character creation but also for playing. To really start you will need to obtain the manual Players Handbook, edition 3e or 3,5

This manual can be obtained in game shops or downloaded. For more details or dowloads you can view the official DnD ressorces sites:
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/welcome (official DnD page)
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35 (complete 3,5 rules)

Later on, as you gain more experience and play with highter level characters you can obtain other manuals that will allow you to chose special classes or equipement, like the Dungeon Master Guide, which allows you to choose magic equipment, among other things.

And you are welcome to ask for more information in the Members Area or email or Private Message (PM) send a PM to Tayron, our New members Assistant.

    2. Where do we play?

Right here. Games run over message boards. We have a chatroom, The LUCKY GOLEM, which can be used for general chat, and on-line real-time games.

    3. Who owns the site?

That would be WorkSlave. At Christmas 2003 he wanted something to do and went out and purchased the domain "www.dndgamer.com" and "just for fun" set up a database and web front-end software to access it. After seeing what WorkSlave had achieved a site that he was a member of decided to "up and move on masse" to this domain.

    4. Who runs the site?

So far, WorkSlave does all the database stuff and a number of Assistant Managers, each with an area of responsibility. These people are easily identified by their posts to the various forums as they tend to have the words "Site Admin" or "Immortal" following their name in any post they make and can be sent a Personal Message or E-mailed if you run into difficulties. A complete list of the Site Managers and their responsibilities are included as a separate Topic in this FAQ Forum.

    5. How do the forums work?

OK, can be confusing so read carefully. The message boards are split into various categories, E.G. "Members Area", "Games Area" etc... Clicking one of the playing areas will open up any "Topics" in that area in the centre of the screen. Threads are also called. "Discussions.". Leaving a message is referred to as "posting".

So, you click a Forum. Discussions are listed in the centre of the screen. From here you can add your own discussion or reply to an existing one. To reply to an existing discussion, click the discussion, then a click a reply button on one of the messages in that thread.

    6. So how do we play over forums?

Simple, first, find a game with a free slot. Look over the GAMES LOOKING FOR PEOPLE, which is the first forum in the GAMES AREA and apply there. When the game DM has accepted you he/she will ensure that you can post to the playing area and will create a new discussion, for example "Act 1 corruption!" is the game in playing area 3. Then, the players reply to that discussion as you would if you were playing around a table.

    7. How do I know which game has a free space?

Check the "Games Looking For People" page (see above). All games that are currently recruiting will have a discussion thread here.

    8. What about house rules, races allowed, starting level etc...?

That is up to the DM of the game you're playing in. Don't go emailing me asking if you can play drow if I'm not the DM. If you need to email the DM, look him up in the members list and click on his name, his email address will be displayed, alternatively, post a message for him in the playing area or check the contact list where he may have his email address, AIM name, msn messenger address, YIM identity or ICQ number.

    9. Can I post a picture of my character?

Yup, go ahead, you can attach what pretty much what you like to any post you make however, as a rule it is better if you can locate one of the many "free" web-hosting services that exist on the net and set up your own site where you can store your images and then link to them from your posts. This way the costs for running this site do not get out of hand and we will not have to start imposing restrictions.

    10. Can I add the managers to my IM list?

Sure, all of the managers are more than happy to have you IM them any of the IM services that they are a member of (IM details can be found on the Memberlist page)

    11. I can't get the chatroom working.

Ok, first off, did ya say YES to any questions it asked about software and certificates. If you didn't then no wonder it don't work. If you did, they try contacting the Lucky Golem manager and if he / she can't help you there's always the GENERAL discussion board in the members area.

    12. Circle of Death

The Circle of Death is a area where we hope all members of the group will create and play a gladiator character. Pretty much any type of character is allowed and the creation rules are posted in the Cod Rules section.

All Gladiators have "fallen foul" of the authorities and have been sent to the Circle of Death to fight in the arena for the enjoyment of the City population. The good news is that all gladiators are resurrected. The downside is that THERE IS NO ESCAPE. A gladiator's fate is to fight, die and then live to fight again.

To join in, generate a gladiator and post his or her details in the Gladiators section you may enter the Barrack Room and begin "trash talking" the other gladiators. Once you gladiator is checked and authorised you will be added to the Scoreboard and will start to be sent into the arena.

    13. Mordenhold

These games are open to all members but their are strict alignment requirements for the characters. The setting is the hell-hole of Mordenhold. It is hoped that we will have rotating DMs running small scenario adventures that are expected to take only a couple of days in game time.

As with the Circle of Death, check the mini-game character creation rules, generate and post the character. Once the character is authorized, you will be eligible to take part in the Mordenhold games, so keep your eye on the Games Looking For People area.

    14. Joining a group.
Once you've been accepted into a game, the DM will furnish you with the information as to what game area to apply to. You will not be able to post in the game area until you have joined the appropriate group. To do this, go to your User Control Panel (User CP). On the left are the links for doing all your account things. Under the Networking section is the Group Membership link. Click this to bring up the list of available groups. Scroll down to the Player: Area x group that is appropriate to the game you are joining and select the Join Group radio button at the right, then click the Join Group button at the bottom of the section. You will then be asked to supply a reason for requesting to join. It doesn't really matter what you put here, as long as it identifies you to the DM as being someone that was accepted. Click Send Request. Once the DM approves the request, you will be able to post in the game area.
Note: Please do not request to join a game area unless you know for sure you have been accepted into the game.

    15. I need more information or I want to suggest a question to be added to this FAQ.

Email or PM any of the Administrators: SMJU, R1chardYoung, Birdy-Havik, Gimble, Grodech or Tayron
