Sounds like your nickname is registered and that you don't identify on connect.
If you can remember your password, try typing:
"/msg nickserv identify"
That actually has nothing to do with it...if you're using a nick registered by someone else it'll simply force you to change it (that's who those people with nicks like guest_345 come from)
I can only assume you're using the sites built in java chat? That's, quite annoyingly, a feature built into it that as far as I know we cannot change. It'll disconnect anyone if they don't say anything for a few minutes...it's very annoying.
How do you fix it? Stop using the java chat. :P Go to www.mirc.com and download that. Yes, it's free...it lies and tells you you have to register, but you don't, it'll stay fully functional forever.
Once you get that, just add chat.psionics.net into the server list, connect, and enter our channel #lucky_golem And you're set!

I guess I'm probably using java chat but it always worked before and I'm saying things in that time period. I'll try mirc thought. Thanks Tay
Hmmmm! We've had reports of this sort of thing before.
In the past it has either been problems with your connection, OR you might have picked up that particularly nasty virus and or spyware that intrerrupts your comm's port.
I suggest you do an virus scan and then a spyware scan, especially if it "used" to function properly.

Hmm...curious, I've always seen it as a helpful little feature in the java chat. It does it to me too, and I know for an absolute fact my system is clean, and there's no discernable reason the connection should get in the way. It did the exact same thing on the old forums too, but I doubt we changed the chat software much...if at all.
As far as I've seen it happens to 'everyone' who uses the java chat...tis why I'm forever urging people to switch to a real client. If nothing else, if the java is disconnecting you, it's very likely a 'real' IRC client won't.

Well, it don't happen to me when using the Java client.
But then it's not that often that I'm in the Golem but when I am, I'm usually there for quite a while.

You usually talk while you're there too though, that's the part that really matters. The disconnect doesn't happen unless you're idle for a certain amount of time...the moment you type, it resets the counter.

If using java chat then go with Tayron, get mirc. If you are however, already using mirc then the problem is likely with our new chat server.
It has a most annoying feature where if you are using a nick that someone else has registered, whether they are online or not, you are given one minute to register or be renamed as guest, which will leave you unable to talk in our chatroom (I have no idea why we dont allow guest talk, guessing this too is to do with the new server). You seem to be getting removed so this probably isnt the case. Either way, get mirc, register a decent nick with a pass you can register quickly and go like that.

guest-chat proves to be a major security issue, allowing spammers to have thousands of bots up pasting their commercial crap.
