Post ** The Atari Magic Rule **

    Hey all,

ok I've tried this core 3.5 stuff for a few months now. But it's time for my 1st mod.

Magic Rule #1: I do not require PC's to rest in order to re-gain spells. Both Divine and Arcane wielders can prepare (memorize/pray) for 1 spell in 5 min per spell level of uninterrupted concentration.

So instead of Spells per day, the charts are now Max Spells Prepared at any one time. Note: fatigue or exaustion prevents preparing spells this way.

Casters are still able to relearn all spells after rest as normal(once per day). 1 hour for full restoration of all spells. The above re-prepared spells are in addition to that, but you can never prepare more than your max spells.

    Spontaneous Casters:

For spontaneous casters like Sorcs and Hexblades this rule works slightly differently:
once all your spell slots of a particular level are spent, you may spend 5 minutes per spell slot/level gaining back ALL slots of that level at one time. Note: you must have spent all your spells, and you must remain concentrating the ENTIRE time or you gain no spell slots.

    Reason...
I run this mod in 2e so as to give Clerics and Mages a little more kick. It works well in the 2e system. I like DnD worlds with lots of magic, and 1-5 spells a day just doesn't cut it for the plots and situations I like to doll out. Plus my old school XP methods make the rule neccecary.

I wanted to see the 3e system before implementing this rule. At 1st glance I had though that 3e had given magic wielders a little more balance, but now I see not. So if you wield magic, enjoy the new rule.

Don't worry about balance if you do not have magic (Pure Fighters and Rogues have their own ways to get XP).
As the DM I control game-time, and XP rewards, so no one will be able to abuse/munchkin this rule on my watch. 2e is a non-stop juggling act, So I'm fairly sure I can keep it all fair in 3e.

Magic Rule #2. For all casters use your relevent Ability mod to determine Bonus spells per level , NOT the Bonus Spell chart on Table 1-1. So an INT bonus of +4 grants 4 extra spells for each availabls spell level.

    Heh, poor sorcerers.

What influence does spell level have in this system? I can imagine it'd take longer to prepare one's highest available spell, than it would take to prepare his lowest level spells.

    Arrow

yep, guess it sux to be a sorcerer.

What influence does spell level have in this system?
I once contemplated a stricter system, but deemed it unneccecary in 2e. But I can see a case for it here.

guess we'll give it a try:
    Rule now reads:

can prepare (memorize/pray) for 1 spell in 5 minutes per spell level).

Please Note the addition of Atari Magic Rule #2
