I don't really know what I want with this thread, apart from expressing total awe for Wayne Reynolds' picture. Let me try and give this thread a valid reason to exist.
Anyway, I'd like to start a discussion on how the accompanying art makes or breaks creatures. Have you ever seen an otyugh that cool? Do you want that scene in your campaign? I know I haven't and I do. There's other very cool art out there, but only one that I can recall, and that's the ulgurstasa (I think in Fiend Folio, but not sure). Please post more cool art here
There's also really crappy art in the dnd books, and the monster manuals in particular. Would you ever want to have a magmin or tojanida in your game? I know I wouldn't. More bad art can go in this thread too :P
To conclude, the times I DM'ed, I never was big on player handsouts. Heck, I didn't even show them the pictures of half the monsters they encountered, because that required holding up the book and trying real hard to cover up the statblock. Printing the monsters out separately kind of costs a lot of ink, and since I only have a massive antique laserjet printer, I can only print in black, white and grey. Anyone have any suggestions? E-mail the players a pdf with pics and names of all the monsters they might encounter next sessions beforehand? (and leave two out, and add a bunch that they won't encounter, to not totally give it away?) Suggestions on hand-out making and especially monster-pics can go here too.
Thanks. And look at the awesome Otyugh!!!111oneeleven!
[edit]PS. Let me shamelessly stick this in this worthless post as well. It's a draconic translatorhttp://draconic.twilightrealm.com/
